The Marathon Project Announces Brooks Running as Official Footwear & Apparel Partner

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Dec. 11, 2020– The Marathon Project race organizers announced today a partnership with Brooks Running as the official footwear and apparel sponsor of The Marathon Project race.

The partnership involves Brooks working alongside The Marathon Project organizers to ensure a seamless race day experience for all participating athletes as well as an engaging experience for the larger running community through the live broadcast and The Marathon Project’s Virtual Challenge.

“From the very beginning, Brooks understood the vision and value of the event,” said Josh Cox, Marathon Project Race Organizer. “The partnership is rooted in supporting an event for athletes in a year where so much has been taken away.”

The Marathon Project will take place on Sunday, December 20th in Chandler Arizona at 10:00am ET. Among Brooks’ sponsored athletes competing in the event are CJ Albertson, seventh at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon, as well as Shadrack Biwott, third-place finisher at the 2018 Boston Marathon. Two-time Olympian, 2018 Boston Marathon Champion and Brooks-sponsored athlete, Des Linden, will be a co-commentating the live-stream broadcast via USATF-TV+ as well as during the 90-minute replay of the race on NBC Sports Network at 7:30pm ET.

“We know the power that the run can have on individuals and are excited to have the opportunity to partner with The Marathon Project to bring a glimpse of elite marathon racing to both professional athletes and fans of the sport,” said Matt Weiss, Director of Runner Engagement at Brooks Running.

The lineup of athlete entries across both men and women spans across 13 different countries being represented including several athletes who will be attempting to qualify for the 2021 Olympic Games.

In the women’s field, the sixth- and ninth-fastest American women of all-time, Sara Hall and Kellyn Taylor will be competing in addition to two top ten finishers at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials: Stephanie Bruce (6th) and Emma Bates (7th). Keira D’Amato, who last month set the women’s-only American Record for 10 miles will also be competing.

The men’s field includes Canadian record holder Cam Levins, 2:09 marathoners Scott Fauble and Jared Ward of the U.S., as well as five of the top ten finishers from the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials: Augustus Maiyo (5th), Martin Hehir (6th), CJ Albertson (7th), Jonas Hampton (8th), Colin Bennie (9th), and Matt McDonald (10th).

In accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines, the athlete fields are limited, and safety protocols are set to ensure all athletes toeing the line on Sunday, December 20th are healthy.
